Mike Allocca, CGBP

Mike Allocca became interested in logistics while a senior at Suny Albany. He interned at a local freight forwarding company after obtaining his bachelors in business administration, he then became a full-time employee handling international ocean exports and imports. He quickly worked his way over 10 years from internal operations to Vice President of Sale for the New York based company. He was part of the select few of the Presidents Team, (accruing well over one million dollars in gross sales in 12 consecutive months) for 6 years in a row. Mike went through the accelerated executive MBA program through the University of Albany. He has sat on the Board of Directors of the Global Business Network for 2 years. He has traveled abroad many time throughout Europe and Asia and continues to travel/train abroad. He works on a daily basis with exporters and importers all over the United States, helping them with domestic and international compliance and logistics issues. From 2004-2006 he was also a partner in an export/import consulting company. He created and conducted worldwide compliance and logistics training to many of the world’s leading companies. Due to the overwhelming response and need for public as well as in-house training programs, this has quickly become a full time business. In 2006, Mike started his own consulting company under Allocca Enterprises, Inc. and has been working with companies across the United States ever since. Mike is a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) through NASBITE. He won the Trade Partner of the Year award in 2008 in Albany, NY. He has been appointed by the Secretary of Commerce to the District Export Council (DEC) in Columbia, SC. He continues to keep updated on export/import regulations by regularly attending and/or hosting programs, seminars, and events with the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Customs & Border Protection, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Industry and Security, U.S. Department of State, NAFTA – Office of Intra American Affairs, and the TSA.

 


David Desplaces, CGBP

Dr. Desplaces is a Professor of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship at The Citadel. He earned his Certificate in Global Business Professional from NASBIT for which he has served as a certified trainer for many years. Dr. Desplaces serves on many company boards in Europe and in the Middle East. He is fluent in French and English. He is a member of the South Carolina International Trade Coalition and has worked with the South Carolina Department of Commerce to support various trade missions to the United Arab Emirates.

For nearly two decades, Dr. David Desplaces has dedicated himself to the stewardship of learning by educating entrepreneurs, executives, and future leaders with one goal in mind: unlocking the potential in each of them. He has distinguished himself by applying his expertise in the areas of international management, global commerce & trade, cultural management, leadership, change management, and entrepreneurial venturing. Dr. Desplaces’ extensive experience includes starting an entrepreneurship institute, leading a separate entrepreneurial center, supporting various domestic and international entrepreneurial ventures, being a part owner in various businesses, helping launch a professional certification program, leading international cultural and professional development initiatives, and empowering his community through various leadership and coaching initiatives.

Dr. Desplaces completed his Certificate in Business Excellence from the Haas School of Business at the University of Berkeley, CA and earned his Ph.D. in Management from the University of Rhode Island with a focus on change management, after receiving his Master in Science in Education from Syracuse University in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation. He received his MBA in Finance and BS in Management with honors from Bentley University, MA.

Henry Xie, CGBP

Dr. Xie is an Associate Professor of Marketing and International Business at the School of Business. He is also a NASBITE Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP). He received his MBA degree from the University of South Carolina and his PhD from St. Louis University. Henry joined the College of Charleston in August 2006. Prior to his academic career, he worked an an International Trade Manager and Research Analyst in a number of countries such as China, South Africa, and the United States. Dr. Xie has engaged in active research in marketing and international business. His research interests include international marketing strategy, cross-cultural consumer behavior, and internationalization of firms.
