The International Trade Administration (ITA)/U.S. Commercial Service is the export promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce, with ITA serving as the U.S. government’s lead export promotion agency.  ITA strengthens the competitiveness of U.S. industry, promotes trade and investment, and ensures fair trade through the rigorous enforcement of our trade laws and agreements.  ITA is organized into three distinct but complementary business units:

The National District Export Council (NADEC) increases awareness and understanding of the importance of exports to the US economy through education, legislative outreach and engagement with DECs and other relevant stakeholders. NADEC is a 501(c)(6) non-profit corporation that is made up of 16 District Export Council (DEC) board members and 8 associate members that collectively represent and serve 61 District Export Councils across the country. In aggregate, the DECs are comprised of roughly 1500-member organizations represented by business leaders (appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce), whose knowledge of and expertise in international business provides a source of professional advice for their region’s local firms. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is one of the world’s largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. while facilitating lawful international travel and trade.

The Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act (SBREFA) mandates that CBP educate small and medium businesses on their compliance regarding importing and exporting into the U.S. This requirement is met by CBP’s Office of Trade Relations (OTR), who through various outreach efforts, raises awareness of resources available. The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) is the official export credit agency of the United States. EXIM is an independent, self-sustaining federal agency that supports American jobs by financing the export of U.S. goods and services—at no cost to American taxpayers. When businesses in the United States, or their customers, are unable to secure export financing from the private sector (e.g., due to political or economic uncertainty), EXIM fills in the gap by equipping American businesses with the tools to compete for global sales. The State International Development Organizations, or SIDO, is the only national organization focused on supporting governors’ international trade agendas by serving and representing the 50 state trade agencies to the federal government. SIDO helps state international trade programs to better serve American exporters and international company investors by sharing innovative ideas and resources, developing the skills of state trade professionals, advocating the interests of states in international trade promotion and facilitating multistate collaboration. The NCBFAA Educational Institute (NEI) provides educational opportunities to the members of NCBFAA & the larger trade community in the areas of international trade, supply chain management, global logistics, customs brokerage, export transactions, transportation, attendant government regulation, and those areas of knowledge necessary to manage or advance a career path in a business providing services to those sectors. Established in 1989, the Organization of Women in International Trade International (OWIT) is a global association for women in international trade and business. Our 2,000-plus members impact hundreds of millions of dollars in trade and business transactions annually. OWIT serves as the unifying body of a network of chapters spanning the globe in the Americas, Western Europe, and Africa. OWIT also supports a “Virtual Chapter” for individuals involved in international trade and business who do not have access to a local OWIT chapter where they reside or work.
